Admission to the lower division honors program
Most honors students apply to the honors program early in their
senior year of high school. Post-Secondary
Enrollment Options (PSEO) students may also apply for admission
to lower division honors.
Admission to the honors program is selective. The admissions decision
is based on the applicant's high school records, standardized test
scores (ACT and/or SAT), the application essay, and letter of recommendation.
Most students admitted to the program rank near the top of their
high school class and have excellent standardized test scores. The
2003 freshman honors class had an average ACT math score of 34 out
of 36 and an average SAT math score of 743/800. Applicants' verbal
scores are also taken into consideration during the application
review process, along with the application essay and letter of recommendation.
Math and science instructors are the preferred source for the letter
of recommendation.
Applying for admission
Admission to the University and admission to the honor program
requires two separate applications. Students must apply and be admitted
to the University before being reviewed by the IT Honors Program.
You may submit both applications together, but your honors application
will not be forwarded to the honors review committee until the University
send you a letter of admission.
Contact the Office of Admissions
(240 Williamson Hall, 612-625-2008) for application forms or apply
online.
Space in the honors program is limited; we encourage you to apply
early. The priority deadline for application to admission to both
the University and IT is December 15, 2004. The priority application
deadline for IT Honors Program is January 15, 2005. Applications
received after this deadline will be considered on a space-available
basis.
Contact the IT honors staff for more information.
