Diversity Work Team Project
Students solve an existing industry problem (modified for team competition)
as members of a diverse team. Each five-member team includes freshmen from populations
underrepresented in engineering and the physical sciences as well as students
from the general population.
Each team draws on the its members' individual strengths to solve specific
problems. Students develop team skills and the leadership skills they need to
be productive members in a diverse workplace. The project also gives students
the skills and experience that prepare them for immediate placement within a
corporate work setting: consensus building, decision making, conflict resolution,
and project planning.
Teams will be assigned a corporate coach for the team competition and each
team will receive $500 per team member plus an allowance for team support.
