The freshman experience
IT’s Office of Academic Advising eases
the transition to college life and helps you build a
strong foundation for a successful college experience.
Advising staff help you with academic advising, planning
your course schedule, approving registration, choosing
a major, improving your study skills, and applying to
upper division.
All lower-division students (those who've completed
less than 60 credits) meet with a college academic advisor advisor
every term before they register for classes.
First-year curriculum
Freshmen receive a solid grounding in fundamental
courses required for most IT degrees. IT students who
are undecided about their major will follow the same first-year
program as students who've specified a major.
Students are encouraged to enroll in freshman
seminars, which are optional, innovative small-group
explorations of intriguing topics under the guidance of
master teachers.
Special housing options
Living
and learning communities designed for first-year students
foster your academic success and create community.
Choosing a major
Your lower division advisor will help you explore various
majors, decide
which option is best for you, and plan your semester course
schedule accordingly. As a lower division student you select
a proposed major but don't officially become a major in
your field of study until after admission to upper division.
Upper division
Students must apply for admission to IT upper division
(junior and senior years). GPA and course requirements vary
by major. Learn
