I am a third year graduate student working under the direction of Professor Terry Jones. My research is on the infrared polarization of the edge-on spiral galaxy NGC3628. Polarization of infrared radiation is partly caused by the alignment of dust grains within the galactic magnetic field, and so can be used to trace that field. By looking at the polarization around the core of NGC3628 we hope to better understand the effects of the AGN on the galactic magnetic field.
