Renewable Energy for Minnesota: Does Renewable Energy Make Sense?

Tuesday, November 28
7:00 p.m.
Coffman Memorial Union Theater

Lanny Schmidt

Regents Professor of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science, University of Minnesota

Renewable energy has recently received a great deal of attention from the media and politicians. From an engineering and economic perspective, what technologies will be adopted, how soon will they be practiced, and what will be their impact on the state? Professor Schmidt will discuss how Minnesota has been a leader in adopting renewable energy projects, and how the state has the natural resources to completely eliminate gasoline and diesel fuel using corn and soybeans. In the longer term, other biomass sources and wastes will be used to generate renewable energy, but new technologies are needed to make these possible. Minnesota has the resources and the science and engineering base to make us the nation's leader in discovering and developing new energy sources.

The lecture is free and open to the public. For more information about the lecture call
